About Mary Feinsinger

Mary Feinsinger is well known as a composer/arranger of Jewish music. Prior to developing and publishing Jewish Wedding Music: Processionals and Recessionals forBitterpearl Music Publications, she produced, arranged, and music directed KOL DODI, a book and CD that serve as companions to Jewish Wedding Music: Processionals and Recessionals, for Transcontinental Music Company.

In addition, Feinsinger arranged and produced the recording Songs from a Passover Haggadah, and was an editor and music director for Shirei T’shuvah—Songs of Repentance.

Well known in the field of Jewish music As co-founder, vocalist, and keyboard artist of the West End Kl ezmorim, Feinsinger has performed at Carnegie Hall, The White House, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, and St. Peter’s Jazz Church. The New York Times has called her “the world’s greatest Yiddish scat singer.” She serves as cantor for the Rossmoor Jewish Congregation and is on the board of directors of the American Society for Jewish Music.

An award-winning composer/arranger Feinsinger has won many awards for her compositions—including the first Out-of-the-Bachs competition for choral music held in Fort Worth, the Diana Barnhart American Song Competition (twice), and the Shalshelet Competition in Washington, D.C (twice). She received a 2006 Composition Grant from The Children’s Aid Society Chorus, and an ASCAP Plus Award for both 2008 and 2009.

A talented and versatile musician Feinsinger has also been widely recognized for her work in musical theatre. She is a composer/lyricist in the BMI Lehman Engel Advanced Musical Theatre Workshop. Her musicals have been produced all over the United States. She has music directed many shows in New York and in regional theatres and is conductor/arranger for the “Broadway at the 92 Y” Chorus at the 92nd Street Y in New York City.

A graduate of Barnard College and The Juilliard School and a member of NATS and NY STA, ASCAP, the Dramatists Guild, and the Guild of Temple Musicians, Feinsinger serves on the Extension Division faculty of the Mannes College of Music in New York. She maintains a private studio in New York City.
